Contingency Plan

My Contingency Plans
My Top Ten Project Killers

What could go wrong during production
How are you going to avoid this issue? What’s your back up plan?
Someone I was planning to include in my magazine may decide they do not want to be involved and do not give me permission to include anything linked to them.
I will ensure I have a plan B-someone else that I can include in my magazine. This issue is most likely to arise in my real life story piece. To avoid this issue in the first place I will ask permission of everyone involved before I even plan to include them in my magazine. I have already done this with my real life story piece and my interviewee is happy to be included in my magazine and is also happy to provide me with imagery of the incident.
I may not be able to find enough information on a topic I want to include in my magazine to the point that I cannot properly form an article.
This is an issue that I have already faced. I originally planned for my Beauty Blogging piece to be about YouTube Vlogging, based around fashion and beauty. However I chose to make mock ups of this piece and when writing the article I found that there was very little information on the subject. I wanted to include how top vloggers make money and how much but found that this information either didn’t exist or was very vague when doing my research.  After finding this, I slightly adjusted my article subject from beauty vlogging to beauty blogging. Information to create a blogging article was much more readily available and this made the article much easier to write while still being interesting. If I was to have an issue with any of my other articles I would solve it in a very similar way as I don’t think this change with this article has affected my magazine in any way and probably appeals to my target audience more than my original subject.
I may not get the images I need from a photoshoot I conduct. May have issues with lighting/focus/colour/content.
To avoid this issue I will plan my photoshoots so I know exactly what I need to get out of each one. To ensure my camera is set properly I will conduct a number of test shots and make any adjustments needed whether it be to the camera settings or lighting. My back up plan would be to conduct another photoshoot if one was to go wrong and ensure I do not repeat any errors I made the first time which meant that I wasn’t happy with my images. This will involve extra work but will definitely be worth it to ensure my magazine is of the highest quality and meets the standards set by The Northern Echo.
My models for my photoshoots may not turn up.
To avoid this issue I will choose reliable models who I can contact easily and have no issues with being involved. May help to choose people in my class as I will see them in college often to remind them. Calling and texting the models to remind them will help them to remember to turn up. If they don’t turn up I will need to have extra models who are free to step in and are briefed of what they need to do in each shot. As a back up plan I will have extra models who are happy to be photographed and involved in my magazine.
Not enough time scheduled for difficult of complex shoots.
I will practice photoshoots before my scheduled time without a camera so that the models know what they need to do for the real shots. This will mean that time isn’t wasted on making decisions on different things such as poses. I will ensure that photoshoo plans are detailed so that I know exactly what I need to be doing.
Losing work due to corrupted files, faulty computers or lost memory sticks.
I will store work in more than one place, memory sticks are not very reliable as they can corrupt files and get lost. I will store work on student network space as it can be recovered even if some work is lost. Make sure to save work often so if a computer freezes your work is safe. My back up plan will purely be to have back ups of my work stored in different places and ensure I keep all of my notes to ensure that I can re-make work if any is lost for any reason.
Any equipment breaking
I will test any  equipment before my scheduled photoshoot time and if anything goes wrong I will have to conduct another Photoshoot. As a back up I may have an alternative piece of equipment I have ready to use or time set aside in case I come across any issues such as this. I don’t see this issue arising often and the main area which could be affected is my Photoshoots as there could be issues with the lighting and camera equipment.
Props disappearing
I will try and avoid this issue by storing props in a safe place such as my locker and only get them out at the time of your photoshoot. This will mean I will be the only with access to them. I will possibly have backup props that will also work in my photoshoot. If props are lost I will try to improvise or see if anyone else has similar props which I can borrow.
Issues with Copyright
Initially I will avoid this issue by ensuring everything I include in my magazine has been created by myself. This includes both imagery and any text. If I include any material which I have not created myself I will have to gain permission to use it in my publication. If I do face this issue I will correct it with new material which I am sure wont infringe copyright in any way.
Issues with Photoshoots-Lighting/Weather/Studio
I will avoid this issue by ensuring I book studio time and plan my photoshoots in advance. If I am faced with issues with the weather meaning I cant conduct my photoshoot outside then I will have to plan a different day in the hope that the weather will be better. If this does not work I will conduct my photoshoot inside however this will mean that I may have to change my imagery idea. The lighting is easier to control with indoor shoots as you don’t have to rely on natural lighting and this may be something I have to focus my photoshoots around if I face problems with lighting.
